It was
shocking and sad to have the following Q from a Muslim teenager the other day in
one of my community clinics.
The A level student's name was made up of the names of three renounced prophets,
he was wearing double prayer caps as if ready to go to masjid and he had the
following complaint; which obviously he did not relate to me directly, perhaps
he wasn't expecting a Muslim lady doctor wearing hijab in the clinic where
sexual health advice was given. He was seen by a local English nurse who brought
his case to me for further advice and throughout the consultation his eyes
remained fixed on the floor for obvious reasons.
I wish to share this here and have done already in our community school parents'
get together because I wish our parents are more aware of the need to
communicate with these children who are growing up in a society where free sex
comes along as one of the given 'benefits' at age 16 just like the NI national
identity no., right to do licensed work as a student for certain hours, basic
beer or wine with meal at restaurants, renting 16plus movies etc. Sex education
is given at schools at much younger age of 11 but its based on 'safe play' not
abstinence because in a secular society teaching abstinence is against human
freedom.
For most children with other faiths all this is fine, but our Muslim children
need guidance at this stage. However because most Muslim parents do not
themselves feel able to discuss such topics with children, if these children
have not been given basic information re: moral values they just follow the
routine and face terrible consequences.
His problem was:
" Since I have been sleeping with a couple of black girls I have noticed tiny
growths coming on my private parts and even my mouth. They have started growing
in size and have covered most of the area".
I asked to apply cryotherapy (ice spray) to his warts, see health advisor for
verbal and written information about this sexually transmitted infection and do
do some fresh slide tests. The slide tests confirmed that the boy also suffered
from another dreadful STI called Gonorrhoea. I requested bloods for HIV (AIDS)
and syphilis, just dreading if any of those came back positive for this innocent
looking face in front of me which reminded me of my son and nephews.
If these children start their youth with such ailments where are they going to
end?
The State is taking drastic actions for sexual health and drug free education
which is based on 'safe play' - allowing everything but with preventive
measures.
My catholic colleague at work agrees that we have not seen such measures working
effectively specially amongst young people.
We cannot ignore the limitations given by faith in these matters no matter how
free we wish to be otherwise, consequences are speaking out themselves.
Some classes in Pakistan are trying to introduce western culture in our country
and feel proud of this; they must realize that all what comes from there will
not be a good news for them in the long run. West is looking for the solutions
of their mistakes. Rather they need our help.
