Salaam! Since there is much discussion of science on this forum, I would like to add my understanding as person with degrees in both biology and religion. It is true that a gene for homosexuality has not been found, though neither has a gene for heterosexuality. There is no evidence that sexual orientation is determined genetically. In fact repeated psychology studies have found that sexual orientation is not one or the other, but in fact a continuum. Very few are actually completely hetero or homosexual, most are somewhere inbetween leaning towards one side or the other. This makes perfect sense since this is the same as we find in other animals. Most animal species practice both homo and heterosexual sex. My apologies to my Brother from Ireland on this forum, but the psychologists evaluating other people's studies on the NARTH website you mentioned have no clout or acceptance by the wider scientific community. Most of the postings on their website are summaries of other studies with no mention of who is doing the summary, so how is rational critique possible? How can one know the background, viewpoint, and education of the author if their name is not mentioned? Sources like these can be true but must be viewed with skepticism. Genes are not the only thing which determine the way an individual's body works, and people can exhibit traits which are not encoded for in their DNA due to a change in the translation or transcription process. Lack of evidence for a homosexual gene does not exclude it as a natural tendancy, there are many factors in the human body. For example your gender is determined by sex chromosomes, XX for females and XY for males. There are people who are physically female but have the chromosomes XY because of a change in a chemical process in her body. How a person develops is not as simple as genes vs. environment. Secondly, I appreciate people's comments on how homosexuality can destroy the traditional family, however how is this possible? I have yet to meet a family that has been broken up because homosexuals exist (and in fact, looking at history, homosexuals have always existed, since ancient times). What I have seen destroy families is when a person is forced into believing they are heterosexual, get married, have kids, and then realise that they are naturally homosexual. Perhaps if people were allowed to act as they natually are (provided they are not injuring others), this could be avoided. thanks for your time. Let God judge
