My confusion is that if cousine marriage is so much risky to human health, this shouldn't be allowed in Islam. This should have been banned by the Almighty.... Can someone please clarify why is this not banned.
I am allowed to have cold drinks but couldnt take it as i am prone to cold n cough. So I avoid chilled and prefer normal water. For me, it is a matter of choice from the given options. Many a things a allowed in Islam but we are selective in choosing out of them as per our convenience. isn't it? Cousine marriages are allowed but not encouraged(means not lying in "must to do" category ). This 'leave' may be useful for some individuals and only social scientists can tell us better about those special cases. I may be wrong, plz go through below link to make an idea what experts have to say on this issue. "A team of scientists led by Robin L. Bennett, a genetic counsellor at the University of Washington and the President of the National Society of Genetic Counsellors, announced that cousin marriages are not significantly riskier than any other marriage. The study[5] determined that children of first cousins did face about a 2 to 3 per cent higher risk of birth defects, and a little over 4 per cent greater risk of early death, than the population at large. But putting it another way, first-cousin marriages entail roughly the same increased risk of abnormality that a woman undertakes when she gives birth at 41 rather than at 30. Banning cousin-marriages therefore makes about as much sense, critics argue, as trying to ban childbearing by older women." http://muslimmarriages.wordpress.com/2007/06/11/thoughts-on-cousin-marriage/ may Allah give cure the baby soon.It is indeed hard test for the parents. wassalam
