[quote]"Muslims, whether they are fasting or not, should fear Allaah with regard to what they are doing and not doing at all times. They must avoid that which Allaah has forbidden, namely watching obscene movies which show things that Allaah has forbidden such as naked and semi-naked pictures, or reprehensible programs, or things which appear on TV that go against the laws of Allaah, such as images, singing, musical instruments and misleading ideas. Every Muslim, whether he is fasting or not, must avoid playing with cards and other kinds of games, because that involves witnessing evil and doing wrong, and because it also causes hardness and disease in the heart, makes a person take the laws of Allaah lightly and makes him find it too difficult to do the things that Allaah has enjoined, such as praying in congregation and other obligations, and makes him fall into doing many haraam things." I agree with most of what you say about obscene movies or TV. programs and music videos, they should be avoided at all times but there is nothing wrong in clean song and music, when I say clean it means clean from objectionable poetry and if a video then a clean video. Then there is the internet which opens the whole world in front of you and it has left T.V. and cinema far behind, at the click of a mouse everything opens. the point is the internet is not bad or evil in itself and can't be stopped but yes what is on it ranges from pure evil and obscene to a world of good knowledge which is so wide and broad that we should have access to. My point is internet itself is not bad but how we use it. The same applies to song its words and if there is a video then what are the images showing. Islam doesn't prohibit clean song and music and by clean I mean clean from objectionable obscene words as well as shirk. I think the same principle should apply to playing cards, if there is betting involved then it is wrong and should be avoided. Sports at one time used to a be healthy outlet for people playing and also a nice clean outing for families and sport lovers now people bet heavily on teams to win or loose. these are some translations of Surah Luqmaan 31:6-7 the source is quran.com Sahih International And of the people is he who buys the amusement of speech to mislead [others] from the way of Allah without knowledge and who takes it in ridicule. Those will have a humiliating punishment. Muhsin Khan And of mankind is he who purchases idle talks (i.e.music, singing, etc.) to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah without knowledge, and takes it (the Path of Allah, the Verses of the Quran) by way of mockery. For such there will be a humiliating torment (in the Hell-fire). Pickthall And of mankind is he who payeth for mere pastime of discourse, that he may mislead from Allah's way without knowledge, and maketh it the butt of mockery. For such there is a shameful doom. Yusuf Ali But there are, among men, those who purchase idle tales, without knowledge (or meaning), to mislead (men) from the Path of Allah and throw ridicule (on the Path): for such there will be a Humiliating Penalty. Shakir And of men is he who takes instead frivolous discourse to lead astray from Allah's path without knowledge, and to take it for a mockery; these shall have an abasing chastisement. Dr. Ghali And of mankind are (they) who trade diverting discourse to lead into error away from the way of Allah without knowledge, and to take it to themselves in mockery; those will have a degrading torment.
