Just a quick reference to the bible, in the first chapter of Gensis, the original Hebrew used for day (yom) can only be intrepreted as a 24-hour day. Those that try to say otherwise, from a biblical viewpoint, are mistaken.
To sum up, the Qur 'an seems to allow for periods of time longer than days, while the language of the bible only allow for a literal, 24-hour time period.
