[quote]I am sorry to say that the site you referred me to is, in my view, a blatant misinterpretation of the Quran Hakeem and Hadees with intention only to ingratiate oneself in the eyes of the West who accuse Muslims of being anti-feminists. For example take the following verse of the Qurane Hakeem which the foundation for the institution of family wherein the husband is held to be 'Qawwam', a sovereign, answerable only to Allah: "And as for those from whom you fear rebellion, admonish them [first] and [next] refuse to share their beds and [even then if they do not listen] punish them. Then if they obey you, take no further action against them. Indeed, Allah is Exalted and Mighty. (4:34)" Firstly, here your are ordained to act on your perception (fear) of rebellion not actual rebellion. Mind it is a preventive action against a wife who is suspected to be rebellious by her misbehaviour with her husband and it is a positive order of Allah to beat her. Second, in a monogamous family, 'the refusal to share bed', will be a punishment more for the husband than the wife, especially when the husband has no 'stepni' in the shape of another obedient wife or a slave. Thirdly: a husband may not always be in a position physically or otherwise to beat a wife as a 'nashooz' woman can muster more support from her 'sympathisers', etc. What should the husband do then to save his family and honour. Will he not be justified then to seek the help of the society which may lead to 'Karo kari', the only remedy available in such cases, perhaps?[/quote]
