"Verily, I have been sent to perfect morals" Salams, As a moderator, I think it is important for you to be impartial and not post opinions of biased or prejudice nature. Your posts seem to come across as being very hostile towards parents choosing to home educate their children and I totally disagree with your opinions. As a parent I am entitled to make my own choice about my children's education and so is everyone else. No one should put pressure on anyone that 'they must' put their kids in school or only home educate in 'extreme cases'. It is none of your business to tell me how to raise my children. I think you know nothing about home education, social exclusion and inclusion. I doubt if you have read any books or papers written by education professors & prominant teachers such as John Holt, John Taylor Gattor, Roland Meighan, Hamza Yusuf or others. I doubt if you have experienced home educating your children or seen others do it! The honest fact is, research has proven it to be far more successful that teaching in schools. It is also totally in accordance to our natural fitra and Islamic teachings where it is the parents responsibility on educating their child (and not anyone elses). There is far less bullying and parents like us do not agree with people who think our children should be sent to into an enclosed building where they are continually abused and mistreated in such a way that effects their lives adversely. In islam no one has to stand up to such abuse. As a home educator my children have had several outings, field trips and social activities which other school child haven't ever experienced. There is far less bullying because home educators are very careful in bringing up their children with good morals & values, something that even our prophet pbuh is said to have recommended: "The best gift from a father to his child is education and upbringing." (Tirmidhi, authority of Said ibn Al As) “I have been sent only for the purpose of perfecting good morals.” (Muwatta) I don't think you have read through the history of schools or how they came about and they are linked to the industrial revolution. I doubt if you understand how detrimental schools are to our children's learning! In reality schools are a prison for young children who spend 37 odd hours away from their families every week. To us, it is anathemia! Wasalam, Thameena ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Education of Muslim Children - Challenges and Opportunities http://www.islamfortoday.com/syed07.htm Dr. Ibrahim B. Syed, Ph.D analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of Public, Parochial, Private non-parochial, Islamic, Virtual Islamic, or Home Schools in the United States "Each one of you is a caretaker (ra'iy) and is responsible for those under his care." (Reported by al-Bukhari and Muslim.) “Man is inclined to get influenced by his friend's manners, so one must be careful in choosing friends.” (Reported by Abu Dawud & At-Tirmidhi) “Whoever has a daughter, tutors her on good morals, educates her well and feeds her properly; she will be a rotection for him from Hell-Fire.” Islam Online What do we mean by good education? The good education means the physical, mental and moral preparation of the child so he can become a good individual in the good society.
