As salaamu alaikum. The recommendations made for items not to be included on one's resume are quite correct. I work in Human Resources, specifically in Diversity Planning and Management (more commonly known to some as Affirmative Action). It is important to not include such things as nationality and date of birth because some employers will use that information in a discriminatory manner -(although such actions are illegal. The inclusion of hobbies or other interests are fine as long as they have some relevancy to gaining employment skills; same applies to volunteer experience. A key tip I use with my own resume is to include my first and middle initial and only my last/surname. In this way, no one can tell whether I'm male or female when looking at my resume. This is not a deceptive practice because the idea is to have my resume viewed on its merit and not be prejudged or dismissed because I'm female (again that would be a discriminatory practice but sadly not unheard of). As salaamu alaikum Fa'izah
