Actually doing surgery is a handicraft like any other one. In this case of “Hand Transplantation” the problem is not to fix the bones, suture the muscles, tendons, nerves, blood vessels and the skin etc but RESTOTATION of the functions of the limb which entirely depend upon proper re-vascularization of the tissues, regeneration of the nerves, movements of the muscles and the tendons within their sheaths otherwise it might, unfortunately, result in a stiff, deformed and claw handed limb. It must be remembered that the primary aim and objective of any plastic procedure is not the appearance but the FUNCTION, which does involve the multidisciplinary approach in addition to the surgeon.
Furthermore, unlike the *auto-grafts the main problem of the *allo-grafts is the hyper-acute, acute or the chronic rejection, which might be inevitable even after complete typing. It is said, “If it (rejection) occurs, is due to some un-detected antigens causing the antigen antibody reaction responsible for the damage”. Let’s see the results about which the surgeon Mr. Pedro Cavadas himself has the following comments. (Reference: The link given in the post of this forum initiated).
“She (Alba) should have sensitivity and movement in her new hands within five to six months. He admitted that it was difficult to know exactly how much use Alba will be able to make of her hands. But he added: "In any case this is much better than any prosthesis."”
Man can do only the struggle but it is only Allah Who is all in all. May Allah Almighty help Alba and she be able to enjoy her life, Aameen.
If the facilities of hand transplantation are not available, the forearm stump (below the elbow) may be refashioned in the form of a tuning fork. Each limb of the tuning fork is constructed over the ends of the bones (Radius and Ulna). The pronged end of the stump allows the pincer function, to some extent, for relatively a crude grasp of some objects and with regular practice and exercise the individual can do some works of the basic life needs. This type of fashioning the stump is only on the principles of “Something is better than nothing”.
Moreover, *xeno-gratfs are also sometimes useful but have much demerits. ********************************* *Auto-grafts are the grafts taken from the same individual. *Allo-grafts are the grafts taken from the individuals of the same species but of different genetic material. *Xeno-gratfs are the grafts taken from the individuals of the different species.
A QUESTION (Just by the way)
According to the verse of Holy Quran (5: 38), “And the man who steals and the woman who steals, cut off their hands as a punishment for what they have earned, an exemplary punishment from Allah; and Allah is Mighty, Wise.” “Unfortunately, if someone has one’s hands cut for the crime then later on regarding the hand transplantation, what can be the decision in the light of Holy Quran and the Sunnah?” |

if a thief can go back and get a new hand after it was cut off as punishment, then that is a mercy from Allah. He/she will still have to endure the pain of the punishment, and replacing it with new hand will not be cheap or easy any time soon. |
