عَنْ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ عُرْوَةَ بْنِ الزُّبَيْرِ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَبْدٍ الْقَارِيِّ أَنَّهُ قَالَ خَرَجْتُ مَعَ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ لَيْلَةً فِي رَمَضَانَ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ فَإِذَا النَّاسُ أَوْزَاعٌ مُتَفَرِّقُونَ يُصَلِّي الرَّجُلُ لِنَفْسِهِ وَيُصَلِّي الرَّجُلُ فَيُصَلِّي بِصَلَاتِهِ الرَّهْطُ فَقَالَ عُمَرُ إِنِّي أَرَى لَوْ جَمَعْتُ هَؤُلاءِ عَلَى قَارِئٍ وَاحِدٍ لَكَانَ أَمْثَلَ ثُمَّ عَزَمَ فَجَمَعَهُمْ عَلَى أُبَيِّ بْنِ كَعْبٍ ثُمَّ خَرَجْتُ مَعَهُ لَيْلَةً أُخْرَى وَالنَّاسُ يُصَلُّونَ بِصلاةِ قَارِئِهِمْ قَالَ عُمَرُ نِعْمَ الْبِدْعَةُ هَذِهِ وَالَّتِي يَنَامُونَ عَنْهَا أَفْضَلُ مِنْ الَّتِي يَقُومُونَ يُرِيدُ آخِرَ اللَّيْلِ وَكَانَ النَّاسُ يَقُومُونَ أَوَّلَهُ

The valid reasons that lead to Hazrat Umar RA not joining the jama'ah for prayer on that night can be known only from the complete historical background. We cannot guess the reasons.
For us it is amply clear from Ahaadith that
besides praying Qiyam al-Layl in the Jamaah himself, the Messenger of Allah (sallallahu alaihi wa-sallam) greatly encouraged this practice. |

It's the 3rd Hadith of 1st Part (Babu Fazl-i-mun qaama Ramadan) of 37th chapter (Kitabu Salat-i-Taraweeh) present in the 2nd Vol. of Bukhari. Hadith no.s according to diffirent sources are present in my prev. post.
The valid reasons that lead to Hazrat Umar RA not joining the jama'ah for prayer on that night & the nights that follows, he himself has described it in the last part of above quoted Hadith. In his opinion the individual prayer in the last part of night was much better then this 1st time Jama'at.
our belved prophet PBUH himself has offered this prayer with Jama'at only thirce in his whole life.
All those Ahadith that say that prayer w jama't is Afzal than individual prayer are related to the Jama'at of Farz Prayers. |
