I hope it is not too late for you to ask the question since you have been watching it for quite some time now. Anyway, the good news is that TV is allowed.
Let's have a party at this occassion! |

Salamz ^_^
i was recently asked this question on the radio *hehe i was on the radio doing a showwww!! :P* and the interviewer asked us the same question. when i said, "i dont think that the tv as an item is Haraam, it depends on what you use it for", he replied: "yes but TV can LEAD to a sin and all things that LEAD to a sin are also Haraam"
...but then again you could say the same thing about a pencil. you can use a pencil to write good things but you can also use it to write bad things - therefore a pencil can lead to a sin
however, in the Qura'An Allah tells us to not be disobedient and not do bad things, such as WRITE bad things, He does not tell us to NOT USE A PENCIL.
its the same with the TV. Allah says in the Qura'An to refrain from acts which dissapoint Him and harm YOU spiritually. listening or waatching things on the tv that are bad IS Haraam *or a sin* but the actual TV is not.
we simply need to be careful with what we watch and what we listen to ^_^
i hope that answered the question
Wassaalam

Please clarify where it says in the Quran that if something may lead to a sin, then it is haram. In my understanding it does not say that, and I think the idea presented is anything that may lead you to haram should be avoided. Does not mean it becomes haram also. There is a difference.
Saying something is haram or halal is not something trivial. It is only God's right to say so, and we should be careful in such discussions. |

Aslam o Alikum,
Well I have read this information on a site. What's you opinion please. I am really confuised!
----------------------------------- Hard Facts About Television
Posted: 21 Rabi-u-Thani 1424, 21 June 2003
The Council of Islamic Scholars (Majlisul Ulama) of Port Elizabeth, South Africa, have published a booklet on Islam and television in which they list the factors present in television that are unlawful or offensive, the existence of any one of which is sufficient to make watching it a violation of Sacred Law, including: 1) pictures of animate objects and picture making; 2) music; 3) immorality, nudity, illicit bad word is not allowed, pornography, etc; 4) obscene language; 5) incitement to fornication; 6) negation of haya (modesty); 7) scenes of violence, sadism, and crime in general portrayed; 8) the addictive influence exercised by TV; 9) it encourages the acceptance of aggression as a mode of behavior; 10) it encourages imitation of the crimes portrayed; 11) the brainwashing action of TV, especially on the young; 12) it stunts intellectual growth; 13) it wastes time; 14) it interferes with one's religious duties and one's necessary and important worldly duties; 15) it diverts one's attention from the remembrance of Allah; 16) and it falls under the category described by Islam as lahw (pointless amusement). (Majlisul Ulama)
In the face of this formidable array pf evil factors and harmful effects no one can have any doubt of the illegality of television in Islam. Television, as has been seen, is an embodiment of sin and immorality. Islam can never condone or permit an institution that plays havoc with the spiritual, mental, and moral development of mankind. (Islam and Television, 20-21) [From Reliance of the Traveler, Nuh Ha Mim Keller, pp 964-965]. --------------------------------

Assalam o Alaikum,
Brother Atif, I think the main point is also mentioned in the same fatwa you posted. Please check :
"Television, as has been seen, is an embodiment of sin and immorality. Islam can never condone or permit an institution that plays havoc with the spiritual, mental, and moral development of mankind"
If one can see the TV for good purpose, then there shouldn't be any problem.
and because of the bad use of any thing, we can't say that its haraam. If we say that incorrect use of any thing makes it Haraam, then these people shuold not use internet as this is much more harmful for the character of young generation than a TV.
According to the logic mentioned, Internet is also Haraam and the people managing the website you mentioned are also indulged in HARAAM activities. What you say ! |

As-Salaamu Alaikum Atifonly,
The Council of Islamic Scholars (Majlisul Ulama) of Port Elizabeth, South Africa based their opinion at the viewpoint of making pictures of animate objects as Haraam. They do not consider the picture to be taken as Allowable in Islam according to their understanding. So TV for them is totally not allowable.
Anyone wants to read their understanding can visit the link: http://www.inkofscholars.com/inkofscholars.php?file=article.php&id=236 |

quote: I think they are still living in the stone age.
We muslims love to live in the stone age.
It might be revealing for many to note that the printing press was banned for more than five centuries(!!!!) in the areas under influence of Turk sultans.
And while the people in europe were printing the bible and books on every imaginable suject,;Aurangzeb, the great(?)Mughal king, was copying The Quran with his own hand writing. A very noble act indeed! I wonder how manycopies he could have produced in his life time.
Being a king he could have easily commissed a printing press for the benefit of the masses. The kings and the mullahs were/are the collaboraters throughout the entire muslim history to enslave the masses by banning the modern ideas and thoughs by acts of governments and even through fatwas like these.
Even today, the dictators and mullahs in entire muslim world are unanimous in their goal to keeps the masses enslaved through these sort of fatwas.
Above are some of the most crucial mistakes we, the muslims made in the past. And suffered and are being humiliated.
We must welcome all available media to acquire knowledge.
Examples of countries like Japan should be the role model for us.
They had a humiliating defeat only just 60 years ago. And just two decades after that they were ruling the world as an ecnomic supper power.
They changed their approach. They sripped their kings of the status of gods. And they stopped going to their mullahs to ask stupid question like watching TV!!! and things like that.
Regards. Ijaz

Europe went through the same problems as we are going on. their mullahs kept the masses ingorant, and they were themselves ignorant. Much like our mullahs of today. It is time to get rid of these ignorant people who claim to be the ones in charge of Islam. |

They (the dictators and mullahs in entire muslim world) are actually the muslims by name only, not the sincere ones.

How can we get rid of them- by killing them or by some other method? What would you feel if they raise the slogan, like you have done, to get rid of the people whom you like eagerly? |
