Immoral Images and Characters

The most nagging question that a believer should be concerned about is that " how can he guard against the wave of immoral immages and characters" that traverse his mind long before he can do anything? Expecially in the cotext of the Internet? What measures do you suggest?

Assalam-u-Alaikum,
you have kicked off a very good debate!
On a personal note I,ve been fighting the urge to
have a peep of the"immoral images etc.,"and by the grace of Allah I,ve been successful.I think in this context The study of The Quran has helped me a lot in resisting this temptation. But I,ve failed to wean my friends off this tempting trap.

Studying the Holy Qur'an really helps. When a person ponders over the meaning of the Qur'an, he feels that he is not only given wisdom but also the courage to fight evil.

How do you try to motivate your friends to get over with this temptation?

A verse in the Quran tells the believers not even to go NEAR indecency. I do not remember the exact words. This needs to be remembered at all times.

Other than that, the insignificance of a temporary temptation compared with the wrath of God makes the pleasure of most sins look trivial.

If I had to, I would convey the above points to my friends.

I would like to learn better reasoning though.

Brother Aslam

If I were to ask you why should I pay zakah; the answer to the question would be contained in the Quran. However, I would be looking for answers/reasons. Reading through the Quran would definitely give me an answer but I would be asking you to get a handy/precise response.

Same is the case with the question presented here. Reading through the Quran would definitely give us an answer but at a certain point in time, we may not want to go through volumes of subjects in order to find out what we are searching for.

I would want to learn more precise reasoning that takes the subject head on.

Thanks

Actually, there is a subtle relatioship between the suggestions of you both, sister Ayesha and brother Aslam.

Suggestions put forth by the sister are reinforced by the suggestions forwarded by the brother.

Actually, we tend to forget(or put aside) the fact that Allah has prohibited us not to go near indecency. Such rememberance is reinforced by studying the Holy Qur'an.

Also to keep the attributes of Allah fresh in our minds(like He is just etc), we need to study the Holy Qur'an.

What has been suggested by you sister, cannot be maintained without reading the Holy Qur'an. One has to keep fresh the thought that Allah will mete out punishment to the evildoers, as man is forgetful.

I however agree with you that precise reasoning guides the addressees toward better solution.

I agree to all of the above but in my opinion people who indulge in indecencies tend to forget the existence of Quran & more than often they forget that Allah Taala is watching them.If these people studied the Quran they would refrain from such acts. Therefore we must convince them of their wrongdoing by effective reasoning alone & not by telling them to read the Quran.

Yes, I agree with you on the point that you added.

I however would like to tell you that the Holy Qur'an does the same job as you specified for the preacher. It means that the Holy Qur'an also reasons with the reader. The Book explains to him the pros and cons of leading a bad life... you may enjoy but for a while...I believe that the Holy Qur'an does more effective admonition than any preacher may.

However, we need to convince a person through logical reasoning that he really needs to listen to the calls of his conscience and also study the revealed guidance. For this part, we shall use our reasoning faculty in the best manner possible.
