The basics of religion is found in every human being, you'd agree.

Revealed religion regulates these basics. For instances, the sentiments of worship is found within all humans. But how to worship? The Almighty explained, through His Messengers' to offer Sal'ah five times a day; to fast for one month; to pay Zakah; to perform Hajj. Without such guidance, man may not have been able to rightly worship his Lord.

When one contemplates upon the signs of providence and mercy of the Almighty, found within one's self and scattered through the universe, a sense of gratitude forms in their heart. This overwhelmign sense forces him to express thankfulness to the Almighty. He can not devise a proper way to satisfy this urge by himself. Here he needs institution of religion to formulate worship rites.

Assalamu Alaikum,
I think we need religion to put meaning into our lives. if you look at animals, they do not have a sense of direction - they eat, mate and sleep - that is all there is to their lives. It is the same with one without religion in his life. The one who truly practices religion has satisfaction, is more organized and knows what his worth is in this world.
We need religion to guide us through life, give us a true sense of direction.
it is a big jungle out there and without religion man is lost.

Do you mean to say that, without religion, man is as ignored as animals?

Assalamu Alaikum,
The comparison here is in the reasoning and way of life. One who is not guided by religion considers only the world and what is in it and does behave like an animal. he has no thought for the life after death.
In this world today which is based on 'human rights'he will not be ignored, but animals will have a better place then him since they have rights too.
I hope i am right sir, this is my own thought of the irreligious person.

Assalamu Alaikum.

Yes, you are right. But I’d like to make clear what I understood of your message.
The person who is disposed to pay no heed to the calls of his conscience and to the revealed guidance provided by the Almighty does live like animals. Actually, he is not ignored regarding the way he should live his life. He is very much clear about good and evil even when he is not guided by the revealed religion. The problem with him is that he closes his eyes to the stark reality of life. The reality which insists that we must live in this world a responsible life; we must not be careless about the results of our actions. The concept of justice is innate in every person. On the basis of this concept, he is convinced that a Day should come on which all matters should be decided. Religion does guide him further regarding this responsible life but, without religion too, he is well aware of some basic realities of which he will definitely be questioned. The only problem, I again assert, is that he chooses to live a irresponsible life when he has complete idea of a responsible life.

The basic need of religion is that it answers certain questions that arise in our mind and which can not be answered by science or human reasoning alone. The reason being that these are 'metaphysical' questions which are beyond the scope of science. For e.g questions like

a) Does this universe has a creator or it was created out of chance?

b) If it has a creator then what was his purpose for creating this universe and humanity?

c) Does this creator communicates with humanity throught some medium or he has left humanity to fend for itself?

d) We observe that every human being dies after some time. Hence a questions arises that is death the end of life or there is some life after death?

e) If there is life after death then do our actions in this life affect our life after death?

f) Are good deeds rewarded and punishment given for bad deeds after death?

g) We observe that some good people live a life full of miseries and trajedies in this life through no fault of theirs and some bad people enjoy all the best in life, again through no merit of theirs.
Why is it so? Is it all haphazard or is there is design behind all this?

Hence religion basically answers all these questions.

I think questions like whether this universe has a Creator are well answered by human intuition. What divine revelation does is that it provides us with further affirmation of these very facts. We need to appreciate that before scriptural guidance we were blessed with innate guidance, intuition. Religion only resolves those confusions which humans themselves gave rise to with the passage of time ever since Adam (sws) set foot on this earth.

assalamoalaykum/peace

we need a highway code to travel on motorway
hence we need same to travel on the motorway of life
we will not deserve driving licence if we deny the highway code
and we wud like to hv a complete code to tell us about every junction and exit on that particular way

deen/religion is this code
so deen is "life style"
and i think we r lucky to hv a complete code of life i.e.
Islam
