hmmmmm Do u think that CIA's main work is to FIGHT against HIJAB? If u think that I'm working for CIA then I don't need to do or even SAY anything BCOZ my ALLAH knows everything. |

brother ibrahim i would like to ask when you say hijab is not compulsery on woman can you calrify are you saying hijaab as in just the head scarf or are you referring to hijaab as the full islamic dress meaning jilbaba,abaya?
and the brother that accuses one of being CIA can i ask you how old are you its just i was under the impression pre-schoolers were not using this site!!On this site (may Allah SWT bless all who is working hard to keep this site going ) there are people from all walks of life joining here as one with one mission to gain knowledge about our beautiful religion we may not agree all the time on each others opinion which is what debates are about but to act childish or call people names, is not what our religion is teaching us there is always ways of resolving things and if one cant change your opinion for what ever reason ask politly if it still does not work for you then walk away from the topic and let the likes of brother ibrahim do their job in helping us acheive our mission. |

Well sister, whethere it is Hijab (covering of Face) OR it is Head Scarf, NONE of the TWO has been made Compulsary by God in His Sharee'ah.

it would be better if we clear each other on the topic as what exactly hijab means.
If it means covering the entire body like afghan women or cover all except face and hands.
There are only two established views abt hijab among scholars i.e.one says cover all,the other says face and hands are exempted from hijab and permissible to open.
We should strict to our topic only and avoid blaming as this is also against the teaching of islam . |

Karen Armstrong writes in her book, Islam A Short History:
"The Quran prescribes some degree of segregation and veiling for the Prophet's wives, but there is nothing in the Quran that requires the veiling of all women or their seclusion in the separate part of the house. These customs were adopted some three or four generations after the Prophet's death. Muslims at that time were copying the Greek Christians of Byzantium, who had long veiled and segregated their women in this manner; they also appropriated some of their Christian misogyny. The Quran makes men and women partners before God, with identical duties and responsibilities. (Quran 33:35) The Quran also came to permit polygamy, at a time when Muslims were being killed in the wars against Mecca, and women were left without protectors, men were permitted to have up to four wives provided that they treat them all with absolute equality and show no signs of Favouring one rather than the others. (Quran 4:3) The women of the first ummah in Madina took full part in its public life, and some, according to Arab custom, fought alongside the men in battle. They did not seem to have experienced Islam as an oppressive religion, though later, as happened in Christianity, men would hijack the faith and bring it into line with the prevailing patriarchy."

so can i ask if what your saying brother junaid and brother ibrahim a woman is allowed by the will of our Creator to walk on the streets to day without covering her head or body?
surley if the quran does not specifically say this then the hadiths must say something on this matter on what the women of the days of the Prophet PBUH did regarding covering ?
and then i would like to put this question to brother shamsher and zulfee who only belive in the quran and not the hadiths should women not cover them selves as quran does not state this? |

i originally posted on this forum as wenpam3, long post! one year ago. i have since returned to the Uk, and am surprised this thread is still going.
Alhamdulillah for the Mercy and Grace of Allah who has blessed us with this Deen and with our beloved Prophet Muhammed to guide us through it. there are many many many hadith that speak of the covering of women. as well as the ayah of Quran quoted on this thread previously. the four madhabs are unanimously agreed that the woman must cover everything except face and hands. there is difference of opinion(khilaf) in regards to the face, hands and feet. there is a recent fatwa that in a place where the woman is going to suffer physical harm she can leave off hijab, but this is not something that is widely agreed upon. I have never read or been taught that covering all except face and hands is a matter of choice.
One thing is clear the Prophet Muhammed peace be upon him, told us, this Ummah would not unite upon falsehood.
As a muslimah it is an honour and dignity for me to wear hijab, i have been through the whole range from full covering to scarf and long top over loose trousers. All are acceptable, and i tend to change according to where i am and what i am doing (try hiking up a mountain in full 'afghani' type burka!!!)
One of the beauties of Islam is its acceptance of 'DIFFERENCES OF OPINION' it is the diversity of muslims and their various cultures that make this Deen unique. we do not need to all 'conform' to one opinion, yet at the same time, we follow one God, one Prophet and One Book, how great is that?
The Prophet Muhammed peace be upon him, had respect and mercy for all humans whether muslim or non muslim. Allah tells us that Our Prophet was sent as a Mercy to all mankind. If we cannot show respect and mercy to our fellow muslims then how can we show it to the non muslims. without doing this they will never believe that Islam is a religion of beauty and joy. Make all your effort to show others the wonder of this Deen it is truly a gift. We have enough 'bad press' and oppression against muslims as it is without us adding to it ourselves.

your post was long but it is beautifully expressed so you dont need to be sorry, i agree with your post and wish more people would have such views.
i will tell you my experience about hijaab and full body covering. coming from a westernised society like the majority i did not cover myself until about 5 years ago, i did out of my own free will and for the love of my deen where it specifies whatever you wear dress modestly. i received alot of criticism from freinds and family telling me im trying to be religious, its the fashion now ect ect, this ofcourse did not deter me but made me more determined to please my creator rather than people i socialisew with or live with, but since i strarted wearing jilbabas and hijaab i have never wore anything different like loose tops and long baggy skirts or trousers or even loose fitted shalwar kameez, there have been times when i have wanted to do this but feel i cant as these same people would be there to say oh didnt last long fashion is over ect, i wish more people would understand that jilbab or abayas are not an islamic dress you are allowed to wear anything providng its modest and respectful.
i am suprised at peoples ignoranace and attitudes. |
