learning English without a teacher
Those were the days when the Britich were in India.
An Urdu-daan learnt English from a book "Angezai seekhiye"
He spent a good part of the night learning by heart the words of salutation.
The book taught:
Jab kisee ko subah milen to kahiye:
Good Morning, Sir or Madam ... as the case may be.
Next morning as he came out on the road, he confronted a British lady in Jeans. With great enthusiasm our Urdu daan pronounced "Good Morning, Sir or Madam as the case may be"
She took off her shoes and threw on his face. |
