Humanity Matters
Spring'07

Newsletter Serving Humanity

If only I knew the heights I can achieve,

By not being an angel,

Or a super being,

But merely by walking,

And talking like a human,

Who knows how to love,

Who knows how to care.

Who knows how to listen.

Who knows how to share.

Just because….

Humanity matters….

(henna khan: Team Director)

Serving Humanity continues to grow slowly but surely. The works we do are mostly based on individual levels. We have received emails and requests from individuals and have been able to contact and counsel them through our members living in the areas. As you would understand, it is otherwise not possible to establish the authenticity of such cases asking for help.

The previous Task

-for the winter was to visit some one long forgotten or one who you had some hard feelings about, forgetting the past and forgiving everything that had stopped you from meeting. This was left to the choice of individual members to complete in their own area and capacity.

We have only a few reports. Not all members have sent their experience to us.

A widow F.T. was contacted who lost her husband in Spring 2005 and is now living with her four children. She was grateful to know that someone remembered them and cared for them.

A young mother A.R. who has received shocking news of having breast cancer-but was ignored due to busy lives-was visited; small gifts were given to her children and lots of reassurance to the family.

Two individuals were contacted on telephone.

These tasks were done by our individual members who took the pain of spending about 30 minutes each from their extremely busy lives to do these acts and if we could imagine the uplift and hope received by the suffering individuals. If we could imagine that how pleasing these acts are to our Creator. It's a matter of just stopping for a minute from what we do everyday, planning and doing something different, something which would give us no money, fame or any other apparent material reward; but will give us the gist of being human. We all are busy, hence no immense job is expected from us-but trivial tasks done with the depth of heart can mount to the heights of gigantic missions.

Current Projects: Volunteers, Pick & Choose:

Domestic Violence: (New)

Do you feel comfortable to talk to some one?
Looking at the number of cases we have been receiving in this regard, we have added this section. We can advice you regarding relevant links and people in your area. We believe that family unit is the building block of a society and domestic violence is a monster which aims to destroy this unit. this is against the plan of the Creator of Humanity. Volunteers who wish to take part in saving this unit, even if in a limited capacity and area, please write to hkhan135@aol.com

Maternity Services (New)
We intend to coordinate with the charity organization Kawish in order to donate a mobile unit of maternity services in an area anywhere in the world where child birth causes disease and death due to non-availability of resources.
Please send us your suggestions which area you think it should be.
We would then get an estimate of the expenditures and let you know so that we all can contribute together a part of it.
Presently the highest rates of maternal and perinatal death(babies) are in Africa, Pakistan and Afghanistan(Afghanistan being the highest)If interested in this project, please write to our Kawish colleague "ammartarin" <ammartarin@cyber.net.pk>,

Reducing Maternal Mortality in 3rd World:
We also coordinate with Amma Life Project ( Dr.Arri Coomar) to help the suffering mothers around child birth. Doctors/members interested in this
project please write to Dr.Arri arricoomar@blueyonder.co.uk

Introducing Orphan Sponsorship:
You may get involved with distant sponsorship of one orphan child in the earth quake affected areas. Our Coordinator for the Earthquake Project, Dr.Rizwan Haider visits the areas personally and will make sure that the money is used for the Cause most reliably. Let us know if you wish to do so. You can receive the details and updates about the sponsored child. For this purpose you need to send us $28 or £15 per month and let us know if you wish to disclose your identity to the recipient. If you wish to sponsor, please write to serving.humanity@gmail.com or wanriz@gmail.com
Earth Quake Project

carries on. We need more volunteers to contact us if they wish to visit the earthquake effected areas and if they can contribute in the rebuilding of the areas in any way. Please contact Dr.Rizwan Haider who coordinates for this project. wanriz@gmail.com

Task for the Next Season for Volunteers:

Visiting one old person in the community for 20minutes and talking to him/her-asking him the experience of his life and whether he/she thinks life was worth living-if it was re offered how would he/she like to live it?

Recently we came across a range of problems faced by the local people in some parts of Pakistan badly hit by rains and now facing after effects.
The severe traffic problem in the city of Karachi demands restriction of traffic entery into busy areas like City centres. One suggestion is to apply congestion charges to the vehicles which enter the congested areas; however for this we'll need dedicated lanes for Bus use and encouragement to use buses.
Every community member needs to think about the solution because time is a treasure for an individual as well as a nation and such problems cause tremendous loss of time as well as damage to mental and physical health at large.

Salaam alaikum. YOU NUTS? Congestion charge? Haven't we had enough of them in London already? Usury on wheels or what? What about government investment in better public transport?

Quote: You Nuts!

walaykum assalam F; but whats this way of entering a discussion you would be welcomed to the forums if you'd observed some basic rules of interaction with forum colleagues.

it does surprise us though when we happily follow west in our countries- in everything including books, thoughts, culture, their films, songs, even trying to decorate our homes and shops in copy of them, cars and comforts; but when it comes to paying charges as a solution to the problems, like for congestion we don't like it

this just reminds me of a punjabi idiom 'mitha mitha hap hap, kawra kawra thoo thoo' (have the sweets happily and when an unavoidable bitter comes along, try spitting it out)every day is not sunday in this world my dear

Henna,

I think you're confusing the two issues. This has nothing to do with culture. How does tax, tax and more tax solve the problems that governments are well able to afford to do so themselves by investing in viable alternatives? Why should the average man pay more for governmental mismanagement? People rely on their cars if there are no viable alternatives to shift away from car usage and ths takes time and political will.

Yes, I spit out capitalism, injustice and bad government.

Salaam.

who but doctors would hate the taxes most F dear as 1/3rd of their salaries goes into that
however we strongly believe that everywhere in the world the communities must work closely with their state authorities in order to solve their problems.as we enjoy the facilities, we must be prepared to sacrifice as 'n wen needed-to keep peace and order.
however we must keep reminding the authorities of their duties and laggings as well.

We should not have to sacrifice when governments mismanage millions they take off us. We need political power to lobby them to do more to improve transport infrastructure. Not be enslaved into economic oppression.

Newsletter Serving Humanity
Humanity Matters
Winter 07/08

2008-Looking forwards.
We wish our members the best of the seasons.

Minors may vary but the systems set by Nature continue;
Even if we can make a little difference by spending a few moments and abilities of our life, then in the words of a wise man, that means we have learnt from those animals who consume whatever they have around them in the form of grass and weeds, but produce a beneficial product like milk for the people around. We do not need millions of dollars or large centres to initiate our work. Whatever we have, wherever we are, we can consume what has been given to us to provide something to the humanity-as the humanity represents their Creator.

(henna khan: Team Director)

Serving Humanity, A product of minds who wished to use what they had and produce something useful for their fellow human beings. We brought it on net so that like minded friends can join us. Our membership now comprises of about 200 members from various professions. As before we have received emails and requests from individuals and have been able to contact and counsel them through our members living in the areas or via emails. As you would understand, it is otherwise not possible to establish the authenticity of such cases asking for help.

The previous Task
Visiting one old person in the community for 20minutes and talking to him/her-asking him the experience of his life and whether he/she thinks life was worth living-if it was re offered how would he/she like to live it?
We received 2 reports.

A lady was visited who had lost her booked place for Hajj and lives alone. She was shattered and depressed. The member visited her and reassured as well as gave some relevant links and suggestions. She has had good and bad experience of life. Her marriage was broken in old age because of religious differences but she is happy that her children still visit her. She thinks and advices that parents must consider the religious beliefs of the parties in arranged marriages as top priority because such differences can get worse with time.
An old couple was visited one of them is deaf and the other blind but both still work hard with their own skills. They suggest life is worth living if we recognize and utilize the skills we have been blessed with and never stop utilizing them for self and others. Life brings tough times but they change like seasons. It is never autumn always, nor spring forever.

Task for the Next Season for Volunteers:

GETTING INVOLVED WITH YOUR AREA HYGIENE

We can help building a healthy environment no matter how trivial our effort is. Simply reporting unattended bins in the area can prevent thousands of air-borne infections and disease. A location for physical garbage can lead to resources for spiritual garbage. One of our member reports that whilst he walked home after leaving children at school, he saw a young man’s fresh dead body lying in the rubbish area of a fairly posh area otherwise- Because the rubbish wasn’t being collected regularly, the corner got ignored and drug traffickers were using this place for evil acts.
We ought to keep our eyes open for what is happening around us. If we don’t solve the problems, soon we ourselves or our generations will be entangled in them.

MEDIQ&A

Visitors on our site can send their Q to the contact given on site. We shall add selected Q to the N.Letter and Q&A page on site.

Salam
I wanted to ask a question from you.
my sister and her husband are also trying for a baby. but in her husband's semen test, the motility of sperms is zero percent, means 100% immotile sperms. Although the sperms count and morphology is normal.
In a test before 1 month his active motile sperms were 20% but now they are zero. Is there any treatment for it? We are so worried about that. My sister is in Pakistan. If treatment possible can you tel any good male fertility doctors in pakistan?

i shall be waiting for your reply

w'assalam

Your brother in law needs to consult a Urologist in the area as he will need a checkup and further investigations..
Following that he can be offered ICSI (intracellular sperm insemination) for pregnancy at Dr.Rashid Latif's Infertility Centre in Lahore.
The treatment should be associated with the special prayer for the purpose as said by prophet zakaryyah a.s. (pbuh) rabbe la tazarni fardaww anta khairul war'eseen)(My Lord! please do'nt leave me alone and you are the best of heirs )

Best wishes for the couple from the team.

Hope you all have a great winter while serving humanity in the best of your ability. God be with your efforts.

Calling All Dads/Fathers

I'm a freelance journalist and am writing a series of profiles for a new website - www.dad.info - aimed at fathers. The profiles are of a whole range of dads, and I would like to include a Muslim father.

It's a short, positive piece examining the ways in which being a Muslim informs his parenting - passing on culture and values, celebrating Islamic festivals, education, diet, and so on.
