I have some questions on deitry laws:

Q No. 1.

" on which Allah name is not been invoked "
does it also applied to veg food
if no
then is 'prasad'(offering to Hindu diety) haram.

Q. no. 2
If the non veg is prepared in hotel in secular way for eating purpose. Very sure that non veg is not a result of some sacrifice offering to any one.
In case also will it be haram?

Q. No. 3. Use of prohibited food.
Is it lawful to use alcohal for other than consumption purpose. (like as a perfumes )

Thanks

Salaamu Alaikom
I think that if someone invoke other names than Allahs over vegetables, than they as well will be forbidden to eat. If we check in module 2 of this course to WHY it is forbidden to eat something where some other name than Allahs has been invoked at the time of slaughtering we will understand why.
"the verse itself explains that the reason for the prohibition of such meat is not the impurity of the animal BUT THE DEFIANCE OF THE PERSON WHO SLAUGHTER THE ANIMAL." So this must include anything that we can eat where someone elses name has been invoked. For instance sheep is allowed for us to eat, but if another name has been invoked it will be haram. The reason why this becomes impure to us is because invoking another name is idolatry (shirk).

My question was never "Why". I strongly believe that
"It is not lawful for a Momin nor for a Mominah to have any discretion in their affairs when Allah and His Rasool have decreed a matter."

My queries are just for better understanding of the matter.

Let me fine tune my question.
" on which Allah name is not been invoked "
is this applicable to veg & non veg alike. and what if no name is invoked on veg & non veg.

Some non-muslim do pray to ponds, rivers, trees , crops. If Muslim say "Bismillah" (as we normally do) before consuming (some times after buying )it in order to negate the rituals done by Non-muslim. Will it be enough ?

Well, vegetales are not mentioned in the Quran as being haram in any of the cases. So if it is not haram then it is halal. And I think to utter Bismillah before eating is sufficient. And I also think that saying Bismillah before the food make us also value the food more, Allah has put us as viceregent on this planet and made many of the creation to our use and benefits, and I think to utter Bismillah also can be a reminder for us that this is from Allah, and without His Will we should have empty plates.

Thanks Mr. Ibrahim , u have very well explained the virtues of Bismillah that apply to all food veg & non veg alike.
But my question was that
will the utterance of Bismillah is sufficient enough to negate the effect ritual/offering done by non-muslim on veg food/natural matters( like water of the river, grain of the crops).
or will it be prohibited (haram) forever.
Extension of this would be
can Prasad (veg food offering on hindu diety) be purified by uttering Bismillah? or
it will remain prohibited for ever.
or
it comes under different rules.

I will investigate in your question. I am attending an Islamic course on fridays here in Sweden and then I will put forward your question. If we muslims can eat vegetables (or drink or eat anything nonmeat) that has been sacrificed (offered) to some diety by a nonmuslim or a mushrikeen, after we have uttered Bismillah before eating. Hope I understood your query correct. For me I don't want to answer this question since I do not possess full knowledge on the matter. You see since I am swedish we do not come across this type of problems. But,May Allah SWT reward you for the question is very interesting and important.

Salaamu Alaikom kalimbason.
And those learned I have talked to about eating something offered to another diety. According to them it is not sufficient to utter Bismillah. If something is offered to anyother than Allah then it is haram for us to eat. Tawheed is the very foundation of our belief. And this also means that we cannot in no way support any who is practising shirk, morally, financially or in any other way. If we start to take their food that also means we in a sense accept the fact that they can offer their food to other dieties, but we as Muslims are against shirk, and we shall fight against shirk in all forms. (not by violence). So logically; If I was with, for instance, a hindu friend, and I see how he offered a plate with vegetables to his diety and then gave it too me. Would it feel right in my heart just to say Bismillah and eat it? No. That food can not be pure.
Hope you understand my answer.

When it comes to alchohol it is haram for drinking, consumption. According to the learned it is not haram if used in a perfume or for external use.
When it comes to vegetables and also food from the sea, it is halal. It is no slaughter instruction on these. You can't slaughter a cucumber :) If I go to a resturant, for instance, I can order veggie dishes or fish, no problem.
BUT if this food has been offered to any other than ALLAH. If a name other than ALLAH has been invoked over the food, vegetables, fish then we shall not eat it. It is haram according to the consensus of the Scholars. If any other views pelase tell.
At the end Allah Knows best

Muslims believe that any food (parsad) offered at any deity etc may not be eaten. This is however based on analogy of prohibition of eating flesh of animals consecrated in the names of the gods.
This renders the thing prohibited for us and it cannot be considered allowable after we pronounce name of God on it. Both are independent and sperate prohibitions. for example carrion may not be eaten even if one pronounces name of God several time.
