surah falaq
salaam muhammad, i understand that one seeks refuge from the created evil with god. This focuses one onto monotheism,as the notes explain. however, theres a paradox . why has god created evil? is it purely to test ones belief? does it mean that the evil created,is created to demonstrate that only god has this power? that there is clearly no other force at work,as if there were it would only be understood in terms of polytheism? does that not logicaly take one to consider why is there evil? And what is its exact nature? And does it have an existence other than as a test of oneself. regards rod |

regarding test salaam muhammad i have just taken the test and answered all questions but it says i have only done 9. i believe this happened on the last one i took. i also think that the answer given to one of the questions is wrong. it says in the notes "evil does not have an independent existence" yet this was marked as wrong! perhaps you could check that at some point. regards rod |

In this regard, two issues need to be understood separately.
In the second verse of Surah Falaq, the evil under discussion is the one created by human beings because of their misuse of God-given free will and liberty. For example if a person physically harms some one. The evil referred to in this verse of this surah does not refer to evil created by God. The words min sharri maa khalaq do not mean “from the evil created by God”. They rather mean “from the evil created by God’s creatures”.
Secondly, as for the evils created by God, their examples are natural disasters like earthquakes and storms and harmful animals like snakes or harmful diseases like cancer. These are all instruments of God’s system of trial on this earth.
