Promises


As salam alikum,

Someone promises something, and swears to Allah that he or she will do this promise. If this promise is broken, what should the person do?

He should either feed ten (10) poor people the quality of food he provides to his family or give dresses to them or emancipate one slave and if he is not able to do any of these things, he should observes three (3)fasts.

No, there is no need to. You may also please refer to the Holy Qur'an, where the person is directed to do any of the acts given above. The reference is: 5:89.
