What is the authenticated source?

Read these again
Narrated by 'Abdullah bin 'Umar:

Allah's Apostle said, "It is not sinful of a person in the state of Ihram to kill any of these five animals: The scorpion, the rat, the rabid dog, the crow and the kite."

Narrated by 'Aisha:

The Prophet said, "Five kinds of animals are mischief-doers and can be killed even in the Sanctuary: They are the rat the scorpion, the kite, the crow and the rabid dog."

It is clearly mentioned rabid dog, other animals that could be infected are not mentioned and I couldn't find any narrations in Sahih Bukhari that mention other rabid animals, correct me if I'm wrong.
So in my opinion it would not be wrong to conclude from these narrations that in Prophet's time dogs were infected with rabies and they posed a serious threat to humans, therefore it wasn't wrong to kill them.

complete the full reference, page, no, hadith,no, book, no etc..

........that only dog is mentioned because in those days, rabies was spreading through dogs only. That is why the holy Prophet said :

The prophet's saying always has a wide spectrum not limited to dogs because Allah is behind sayings of the prophet.

I wonder what your point was in that? (In the context of this topic)

Because you mentioned the actual reason behind dogs, only rabies………

Therefore my point was that if animals other than dogs are also responsible for transmitting rabies, why the prophet forbade specially for dogs only, if actual aim of the prophet was to save his ummah from this fatal disease?
Or ,
If, actual aim of the prophet was to save his ummah from rabies, ‘does keeping away only dogs can surely prevent this diseases?’

Dont you know that shaitan has lead people to pornography with pet dogs. (Astagfirullah)

Dogs and Pigs specially are the animals which are well known for beastiality (pornography) and these two animals have more limitations in Islam. Proof is availability of the CDs at the relevant shops but I do not watch such things after having seen first time when I was a teenager, Astaghferullah.

This point seems to be worth considering.

@umarbaig

I'll give the exact the references from Sahih Al-Bukhari

Volume 4 : Book 54 : Hadith 531 :

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Narrated by 'Aisha:

The Prophet said, "Five kinds of animals are mischief-doers and can be killed even in the Sanctuary: They are the rat the scorpion, the kite, the crow and the rabid dog."

Volume 3 : Book 29 : Hadith 55 :

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Narrated by Aisha:

Allah's Apostle said, "Five kinds of animals are harmful and could be killed in the Haram (Sanctuary). These are: the crow, the kite, the scorpion, the mouse and the rabid dog."

Volume 3 : Book 29 : Hadith 54 :

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Narrated by Hafsa:

Allah's Apostle said, "It is not sinful (of a Muhrim) to kill five kinds of animals, namely: the crow, the kite, the mouse, the scorpion and the rabid dog."

It is clearly mentioned rabid dog so in my opinion it is fair enough to deduce that rabies was present at the time of holy prophet(PBUH) and was spreading through dogs. Secondly if it was spreading through other mammals then I think they should have been mentioned.

Even if you don't argree with the second point you surely can't deny that dogs were infected with rabies and were a threat to humans.
