piety/taqwa

assalamoalaykum/peace

i was wondering whether taqwa is the final achievement of the status where one does right and right only and nil wrong
or is it the life time journey to achieve this status.

any bright ideas?

Salams,
It,s a relenless and ceaseless struggle.
And this very struggle is a part of tazkiya nafs(purification of the soul). And the more one attains tazkiya nafs, the more Muttaqi(pious) one is.Allah loves those people who are "munibs",those people who runs with new zeal and fervour to their lord whenever they falter.

Salams,
Islahi sahib has written a very erudite book
On Taqwa,"Haqiqat-e-Taqwa".In the book he has explained Taqwa in the light of the Quran and ahadith.

Assalaamu Alaikum.

Do keep in mind, there is no such state for a human being where he does ONLY what is right and never errs. There is a difference between us and angels, eh!

Allah Hafiz.

Can't one stick to what he thinks to be right. Though others may suggest a different "right course" for a particular act of his?

To some extent one,s conscience helps in discerning the right but revelation complements it.

yes u r right

we hv been given everything by the One who wants us to find Him

its the matter of pondering and practicin

and Allah helps wen a step is taken in that direction

the final abode being Paradise

though after a constant struggle

untill one meets Him

but don't u think its a long journey

although biologically, average life span is very short

even if it is 80 years

looking at the way time flys

Assalamo’alaikum brothers and sisters,
The literary meanings of TAQWA/Piety are “having fear (of Almighty Allah)”. One who adapts TAQWA/Piety is called MUTTAQUEE/Pious.
The concept of TAQWA/Piety is not as the people know, rather different. It is not an ordinary entity but is a special aspect and extreme of Muslim's spirit. I simplify the concept to state that it is same as someone passes through a thick jungle, taking so much care not to have infliction of even a minor abrasion on one’s clothes or the body. The concept can be further consolidated by the following examples.
1. Men can offer prayers with pent or T-shirt or bare headed but is against TAQWA/Piety.
2. Men and women (even with Hijab) can work together in an office or hospital but is also against TAQWA/Piety.
3. We can refuse a young healthy habitual beggar but is against TAQWA/Piety.
4. Even killing of the insects on the crops is against TAQWA/Piety. Let them eat. Similarly TAQWA/Piety requires donation of your own food, when you are hungry, to the other hungry people.
5. Moreover TAQWA/Piety also favours the rights of nonliving things e.g. throwing of a clean white paper or even an unused matchstick into the dustbin is against TAQWA/Piety.
Similarly there are many other examples where we are not sinful but still can not be included in the category of TAQWA/Piety. This is the state of FANAH-FILLAH that means“ Negating oneself and nothing but Allah”.
Holy Quran guides only those who adapt TAQWA/Piety(Baqra-2, HUDALLIL MUTTAQUEEN). So the requirement of gaining effects of Quran is to be a MUTTAQUEE first. This is compulsory without which one will get the reward of reciting Holy Quran but will remain deprived of advanced supper high effects (JAMALIAT) of Holy Quran, the receptors of which are only mounted on TAQWA/Piety. So adapting TAQWA/Piety and achieving the effects of Holy Quran is followed by height of delight for the man and Almighty Allah.
In the end, TAQWA/Piety is summarised as having absolute fear of Almighty Allah at each and every step and breath in our lives. May Allah facilitate us to do what he wants? Amen!
Allah Hafiz!

Thank you sister for the comments. The reply is easy to understand and no doubt intricate rather seems to be impossible to practice. It must be remembered that it was the reward of this intricacy or difficulty when only 313 not well-equipped soldiers defeated more than one lac of the well-equipped soldiers, the night span increased till Hazrat Bilal (RAA) had spoken for AZAAN-E-FAJR or a dry river from many years had flown by throwing into it only a small chit of Hazrat Umar (RAA). We are followers of the same Prophet (peace be upon him) and we know ourselves very well. Why there is a so much huge difference between the readers of the same book? What can be the underlying reasons? I think Qura’n is not penetrating into our hearts because we unfortunately, have no receptors those are mounted on Taqwa/Piety (HUDALLIL MUTTAQUEEN- Baqra-2). May Allah facilitate us? Amen!
