Eid ul Adha/The
Message in Abrahimic Sacrifice~"Love Thy Neighbor!!"
If you
saved one life, it is as if you saved the whole humanity and if you wasted
one life, it is equivalent to wasting the whole humanity. This is a
translation of the verses from the last revelation from God. Jesus peace be
upon him advised us to love your neighbor as you love yourself. Besides this
we also know lots of similar and famous sayings by other Prophets, Gurus and
Pandits. Saving one Life! Be it by saving not only the Quantity of Life i.e.
saving someone not only from illness or from dying because many of us may
never face such a situation throughout our lives, but saving even from any
harm, ailment or calamity, the consequences of which can decline the Quality
of Life equally. Calamities like the rising incidence of suicide, domestic
violence, drug & alcohol abuse, depression & aimlessness in life, sexual
abuse or even the crippling unemployment & financial crunch! in the story
below, there has been no mention of any particular worship place
deliberately because we live in a multi faith society and this email is also
addressed to people belonging to different religions~
sala'm (peace) is not just a word to whisper to oneself or to just
shout/throw it out at each other, or to say it in our prayers by turning our
necks to the right and then to the left & then forget about it! returning to
our busy schedule of stuffing our own desires & comforts, food and shopping,
as before~ because this is something that even a tamed dog can do! So just
because we walk on two instead of four legs now, we feel we are more
civilized!! Sala'm or peace is something to feel inside our hearts and
spread it to each and every creature around us.
Our trivial joint effort during the past week "National Interfaith Week UK"
was a part of this campaign and we are more than grateful to God who helped
us be a part of it. We hope and pray that more of our friends will join us
in future. Otherwise we can end up like a silk worm, for whom it's own woven
silk finally becomes it's coffin!!

life!"

Every weekend, a preacher and his eleven year old son would go out into
their town and hand out "PATH TO PARADISE" and other religious literature.
This particular and fortunate Friday afternoon, as the time came for the
preacher and his son to go to the streets with their booklets, it was very
cold outside, as well as pouring rain.
The boy bundled up in his warmest and driest clothes and said, 'OK, dad, I'm
ready!'
His Teacher & Preacher dad asked, 'Ready for what?' 'Dad, it's time we
gather our tracts together and go out.'
Dad responds, 'Son, it's very cold outside and it's pouring rain.'
The boy gives his dad a surprised look, asking, 'But Dad, aren't people
still going to hell, even though it's raining?'
Dad answers, 'Son, I am not going out in this weather.'
Despondently, the boy asks, 'Dad, can I go? Please?'
His father hesitated for a moment then said, 'Son, you can go. Here are the
booklets. Be careful son.'
'Thanks, Dad!'
And with that, he was off and out into the rain. This eleven year old boy
walked the streets of the town going
door to door and handing everybody he met in the street a pamphlet or a
booklet.
After two hours of walking in the rain, he was soaking, bone-chilled wet and
down to his VERY LAST BOOKLET. He stopped on a corner and looked for someone
to hand a booklet to, but the streets were totally deserted.
Then he turned toward the first home he saw and started up the sidewalk to
the front door and rang the door bell. He rang the bell, but nobody
answered..
He rang it again and again, but still no one answered. He waited but still
no answer.
Finally, this eleven year old turned to leave, but something stopped him.
Again, he turned to the door and rang the bell and knocked loudly on the
door with his fist. He waited, something holding him there on the front
porch!
He rang again and this time the door slowly opened.
Standing in the doorway was a very sad-looking elderly lady. She softly
asked, 'What can I do for you, son?' With radiant eyes and a smile that lit
up her world, this little boy said, 'Ma'am, I'm sorry if I disturbed you,
but I just want to tell you that ? GOD REALLY LOVES AND CARES FOR YOU? and I
came to give you my very last booklet which will tell you all about God, the
real purpose of creation, and how to achieve His pleasure.'
With that, he handed her his last booklet and turned to leave.
She called to him as he departed. 'Thank you, son! And God Bless You!'
Well, the following weekend after Prayer service the Preacher was giving
some lectures. As he concludes the lectures, he asked, 'Does anybody have
questions or want to say anything?'
Slowly, in the back row among the ladies, an elderly voice was heard over
the speaker. As the voice went on, a hint of glorious gaiety and contentment
was plainly evident in it even though the wasn't to be seen, 'No one in this
gathering knows me. I've never been here before. You see, before last Friday
I was not a person of belief, and thought I could be. My husband passed on
some time ago, leaving me totally alone in this world.. Last Friday, being a
particularly cold and rainy day, it was even more so in my heart that I came
to the end of the line where I no longer had any hope or will to live.
So I took a rope and a chair and ascended the stairway into the attic of my
home.. I fastened the rope securely to a rafter in the roof then stood on
the chair and fastened the other end of the rope around my neck. Standing on
that chair, so lonely and broken-hearted I was about to leap off, when
suddenly the loud ringing of my doorbell downstairs startled me. I thought,
I'll wait a minute, and whoever it is will go away.?
I waited and waited, but the ringing doorbell seemed to get louder and more
insistent, and then the person ringing also started knocking loudly....
I thought to myself again, 'Who on earth could this be? Nobody ever rings my
bell or comes to see me.' I loosened the rope from my neck and started for
the front door, all the while the bell rang louder and louder.
When I opened the door and looked I could hardly believe my eyes, for there
on my front porch was the most radiant and angelic little boy I had ever
seen in my life. His SMILE, oh, I could never describe it to you! The words
that came from his mouth caused my heart that had long been dead TO LEAP TO
LIFE as he exclaimed with a cherub-like voice, 'Ma'am, I just came to tell
you that GOD REALLY LOVES AND CARES FOR YOU!'
Then he gave me this booklet, "Path To Paradise" that I now hold in my hand.
As the little angel disappeared back out into the cold and rain, I closed my
door and read slowly every word of this book. Then I went up to my attic to
get my rope and chair. I wouldn't be needing them any more.
You see? I am now a Happy Vicegerent of the One True God. Since the address
of your prayers was stamped on the back of this booklet, I have come here to
personally say THANK YOU to God's little angel who came just in the nick of
time and by so doing, spared my soul from an eternity in hell.'
There was not a dry eye in the Hall and as shouts of God is Great!! rented
the air, even among the ladies, despite themselves.
Preacher-Dad descended from the pulpit to the front row where the little
angel was seated....
He took his son in his arms and sobbed uncontrollably.
Probably no jama'at has had a more glorious moment, and probably this
universe has never seen a Papa that was more filled with love and honor for
his son... Except for One. This very one...
Blessed are your eyes for reading this message.
Don't let this message die, read it again and pass it to others. Heaven is
for His people!
Remember, God's message CAN make the difference in the life of someone close
to you.
Please share this wonderful message
. Spread His Word, help Him and you'll see His hand in everything you do...

Jihad and War in Islam
Author:
Javed Ahmad
Ghamidi
Tr. Asif Iftikhar
Jihād means to exert oneself fully
in an endeavour. Just as this term appears in the Qur’ān for a general struggle
in the way of God, it also appears as a term for waging war in His way (qitāl fī
sabīl-Allāh). Two forms of this war have been described:
1. War against the denial of Islam
2. War against oppression and
injustice
The first kind of war does not concern the sharī‘ah
(Divine law); instead, it relates to the Divine principle of conclusive argument
from God, which principle manifests itself in this world on the basis of God’s
direct decree and through those personalities whom He grants the status of
risālat.
In human history, this status was given for the last time to the Prophet
Muḥammad (peace and blessings be upon him). The battles that the Prophet and
his companions fought under this principle against the defiance of Islam were
not just battles; instead, they were Divine punishment which, exactly in
accordance with God’s ways and His Judgement, visited first the polytheists of
Arabia and the Israelites and the Nazarenes there and then, after them, some
peoples outside the Arabian Peninsula. The Divine scheme of sending prophets and
messengers ended with Prophet Muḥammad (peace and blessings be upon him).
Therefore, with the passing away of the Prophet and his companions, that Divine
process has ended in which a certain people could be declared as infidels,
battles and wars could be done against them, and the vanquished in such fighting
could be killed or subjugated and made subservient through jizyah (a tribute).
No one until the Judgement Day has any right now to wage a war against any
nation for this purpose or to subjugate a vanquished people by making them
subservient through jizyah.
The second form of war, however,
does relate to the sharī‘ah. Therefore, the only possibility for Muslims to
wage a war as jihād is in a fight against oppression and injustice. In the
sharī‘ah, this is the only reason for an armed jihād. This jihād is not done for
self-interest, wealth, conquest, rule, fame, honour, affiliation, partisanship,
or animosity. It is God’s war that His servants fight in His way on His command
and in accordance with His directives. They are only His instruments in this
war. They have no personal objective; just the objectives of God, which they
intend to achieve. Therefore, they are not supposed to deviate from this
position to the slightest extent.
Important sections of the law given
by the Qur’ān for this form of war are summarized below:
1. The directive of war and jihād
has been given to the Muslims as a collectivity. None of the pertinent verses in
the Qur’ān addresses the Muslims in their individual capacity. As in the case of
the verses related to hudūd-o ta‘zīrāt (legal punishments in the sharī‘ah and
Islamic law), the Muslims become addressees of these verses too as a
collectivity. Therefore, in these matters also, only their collectivity has the
right to take any steps. No individual or group from amongst their collectivity
has the right to take any steps in this regard on their behalf.
2. In the Qur’ān, this directive is
actually for ending religious persecution. Religious persecution means that,
through oppression or torture, a person is coerced into renouncing his or her
faith. All other violations of people’s rights in relation to life, wealth,
intellect and opinion fall under the same category. Therefore, this kind of
jihād can be done against any form of oppression and injustice.
3. Jihād does not become obligatory
for the Muslims until their military strength against their enemy reaches a
certain level. Therefore, it is imperative that, to fulfill this responsibility,
they should strive for consolidation of their moral and ethical fabric and also
do their best in the endeavour to augment their military strength to the extent
that the Qur’ān requires in the directive that it gave when, in view of the
situation the Muslims were facing in the times of the Prophet, it specified 1:2
as the proportion between them and their enemies.
4. Shirking from jihād becomes a
crime only when a Muslim chooses to sit back even after the general call has
been made. In this situation, aversion is indeed a crime similar to a great
transgression. If such call has not been made, this jihād is still a great
privilege that every Muslim should try to have. However, in this case, it is
just a privilege in its import. It is not the kind of obligation which, if left
unfulfilled, makes a person a transgressor.
5. Jihād
cannot be waged in disregard of ethical bounds. Basic ethical and moral
imperatives remain effective in all situations and precede every directive. God
has not permitted any person to violate these ethical and moral principles even
in battle or war. In this regard, the most important guideline that the Qur’ān
has given pertains to the sanctity of treaties and pacts. God has placed
violation or breach of pact amongst the worst of sins. Therefore, help, in
violation of a treaty, cannot be provided to Muslims even if they are persecuted
by another nation with whom the treaty has been made. Similarly, no steps can
be taken against people who are not involved in war or choose to remain neutral
in that situation. This jihād can be done only against the combatants.

Topic: The Paying of Interest
anisac
How
does one deal with paying for college if no one else can loan you the money
but the bank? Who are the biggest chargers of interest. What if the bank is
the only one who will and can loan you the money.
ibrahim (Moderator)
Please note one thing here very
carefully. In the Islamic Shari'ah the Haram thing is only taking/using
Interest not paying interest. Therefore, in your case you are taking a loan on
which you'll be going to pay Interest. Thus you can do so without doing any
objectionable thing of breaking any Islamic Law.
You cannot only take this loan on Interest from
Bank but you can have it from any one else too.
I hope that matter is clearer to you know
anisac
I am understanding some of what
you are saying but I still have questions. You see I have been reading
different explanations on interest on which I did not comprehend anything yet
but I will reread it again, on top of everyone's opinion of interest. Can you
recommend some books or links, hadiths to clarify this subject some more. You
see I am confuse about the using interest. My guess is that if you have a
savings account that is receiving $4.5%percent interest than you should reject
this type of interest and use only what you have saved. Now the second thing I
am confused about is that if you don't have the money to pay for your own
school, house , or business that you should not borrow the money that you
already don't have plus add to it with interest to increase your no money
situation. Then I was led to believe that we should just not be involved with
anyone, period, who charges interest except for renting a place or (some
excused or others don't on) purchasing only one home. I am surrounded by
people who believe all of this so I need resources to convince myself and
perhaps others that we have misunderstood something.
Please don't get frustrated with me and guide me with this. This is such a big
confusing issue. By the way I own a home and we borrowed from Guidance which
is supposed to be Islamic financing?
Please I need more economic lessons on according to the Shariah law. Please
pray for my understanding. I am going to reread this class again and do more
research and this time persevere on getting an understanding on this subject
once and for all..

Profile of a True Muslim
I see the current
discussions on Qur'an Sunnah and hadith and then ask myself, among all these
diversifications where lies the true Islam and the true Muslim. I confess that
my knowledge is very limited, but the desire runs high to learn and to serve.
I ask myself, what does religion mean to me and
what is its importance ? why is it necessary? I think of it as a beacon, energy
and force of guidance to succeed. For me According to religion, the purpose of
our lives is to please God; which leads us to Paradise. To attain this we need
to develop purification. This encompasses positive enhancement and moulding of
the good in our soul, and purification and purging of the bad. The purpose of
religion is to help us attain purification; both in our individual and
collective lives. In the Qur'an, God states, successful is he, who has cleansed
himself (87:14). Simply cut out the bad and enhance the good.
I ask myself how did Islam spread at the time of
Prophet (sws) and sahabha? By dialogue, lengthy debates or discussions,
munaazarah, by sword, by force? I look at the personality of prophet
(sws) the
Qur'an addresses him as 'We sent you thee not, but as a mercy for all creations"
21:107.As I understand the sahabha were not the biggest scholars of religion but
believed in "sameena wa attanah" listened and obeyed. Whatever they learned the
practically applied and demonstrated in their lives. The Qur'an was completed in
over 20 years and we must remember they did not have e-mails, computers to
spread it. The prophet
(sws) was called sadiq and ameen by the non believers.
In Qur'an I have the guidance and in prophet's
(sws)
life I have the practical demonstration to succeed. How did the prophet react
with the nasranees in Madinah, allowing them to pray on Sunday in Masjid i Nabwi.
What did the prophet pbuh say to aal i Yasser when they were torchered in Makkah?
did he say he will resort to suicide bombing and avenge them? his response was,"
patience ! Allah has promised Paradise".
For Muslims of today, what has become important is
to say namaz and fast for a month and follow a particular sect and accumulate
knowledge as stipulated by that school of thought and negate all the other
views, sometimes accusing them of being misguided and also warning them of
serious consequences in their eternal future. Why do we forget that we are a
Muslim 24/7. We are a Muslim every time we say or do anything. Accountability is
for everything. Only Allah knows our eternal fate. The Qur'an says
Indeed, those who have believed [in this Prophet]
and those, who became Jews and the Nasaaraa and the Sabians, whoever [truly]
believes in God and the Day of Judgment and does good deeds; they shall have
their reward with their Lord and they shall neither have fear [for the future]
nor any remorse [for the past].
On one side the sunni's and shiat's are fighting on
the other side some negate hadith others make it a source of religion. So where
lies the deen i haq? I ask.
Is it just coincidence that Muslims everywhere are
being humiliated and are the laughing stock of the entire world. The word Muslim
has become almost synonymous with terror, anger , rage and disruption?
It is not about just knowledge but its practical
application. How we conduct ourselves, how we present our religion to other
Muslims and non Muslims. I find abundant knowledge and big scholars but alas! I
struggle to find a true Muslim Why?
assalamu alakyum.
Where on the net can I find the meaning of various Dua's used in Salaat.
I really appreciate
for a very thought provoking article trying to hit the root cause of all the
problems without being fooled by the symptoms.
Why do we need religion? Why should we be Muslims?
I guess this is the basic question that all the scholars must be focusing on.
Is religion an external thing being imposed by us
on ourselves? or its the sound of nature from within ourselves, as claimed by
the Muslims (they say that every child is born on his fitrah and hence is
Muslim). If religion is the answer or sound of our inner selves then we first
need to identify the basic questions that rise from within? We should not only
determine those but finding an answer of those questions must also hold a
significant place within our lives. This is described in Quran as Noor upon Noor.
If we don't feel any sound from within ourselves then this religion is just an
external thing and will merely be used for specific occasions, slogans, demands
from government etc etc etc, while the daily life will be empty from it.
Pakistan is a classic example of it.
The only thing religion does, in my humble and
extremely limited knowledge is that it makes the life after death an issue for
humans in a way that this issue not only encompasses his whole life but also
becomes the top most priority. (Quran says that Allah has sent his messengers as
Bashirs and Nazirs).
Secondly it tells us that purification is the only
way you can succeed in life hereafter. Thats what the whole philosophy of
religion revolves around. And while giving his Shariah Allah doesn't give a
comprehensive list of all the things that we need to do it only picks up a
handful of issues and gives his guidance. Why is that? If we had to be purified
then we of course need a long and big list of things we need to do to be
successful. From Quran we know that Allah hasn't created humans without any
guidance. Rather humans have built-in not only concept of good and bad but also
the details of them upon which the collective human history itself is the
biggest evidence.
So keeping above and the issues faced by Muslims in
mind, what we need to do is:
a) Get rid of the fancy and hallucinative glasses
of Islam that we use to betray ourselves and hide from the ground realities.
b) Just start thinking that we are a natural and
normal human beings and what should we do. This will not only help us look at
and accept the ground realities but will also help us understands the laws
governing the success of individuals and the rise/falls of nations. There will
be some question also to which the Islam has the answers.
May Allah show us the right path and give us the
courage to accept and follow it.
enclosed is a
response from another web site which in my opinion is the correct reflection of
Muslims
Just wanted to add an observation. We Muslims wail
for progress, talk about the glorious past of our ancestors. Wish there was a
scholar that would work to that end, salvage our past and lead us in a new
direction. We wait for messiahs, for Imams, for leaders.
But when we get some, we spend no time in ripping
that person to pieces.
It's the same when people were waiting for leaders
in the Age of Prophets, but as soon as a Prophet would reach them, they'd turn
around and persecute them.
It's like we have made up our minds already on what
Islam should be or should not be. We talk of women rights against a back drop of
honor killings, foul hudood laws on rape, and wish they were changed, Yet when
someone does aim at them, we critique those very scholars.
We want to return to pristine Islam, to the older
scholars, but we refuse to believe the allowance of the Prophet on women leading
prayers, we say to hell with Ibn Rushd who emphasized reason. We refuse to even
talk on controversial issues, while at the same time emphasize Islam's tradition
of dialogue.
We are mired with contradictions as a people.
In my humble
opinion, at every step of life when I encounter a scenario, I have two options,
to react like myself, or to think how my religion would expect me to react.
Not surprisingly my way is always different,
emotional, impulsive and reactive to situation. Whenever I have distanced myself
and thought about the Islamic way, it is invariably the correct way. Foe me the
journey of life is to try and make these two ways amalgamate somewhere.

CHARACTERISTICS OF A
GOOD MUSLIM
Muslim is one who is willing to give up pleasure
for long-term gains (Aakhirah).
Muslim is one who has the ability to settle
differences without resentment or anger
Muslim is one who perseveres despite setbacks.
Muslim is one who knows life is too short to waste
in idle activities.
Muslim is one who has no prejudice, intolerance,
hatred or revenge.
Muslim is one who has the capacity to face
disappointments and adversity without becoming bitter.
Muslim is one who accepts his mistakes and who does
not complain that the rose bush has thorns but rejoices that it bears roses.
Muslim is one whose needs conform to the Qur'anic
commands and those of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).
Muslim is one who makes Jihad (struggle) to change
things, which he can and who lives in peace with things that he cannot change.
Muslim is one who gently and constantly questions
himself/herself "AM I A MUSLIM?"
A Muslim meets his brother with a smiling face (he
restrains from anger and is forgiving). The Prophet (pbuh) said: "Do not think
little of any good deed even if it is just greeting your brother with a cheerful
countenance [face] {MUSLIM}. The Prophet (pbuh) said: "Your smiling at your
brother is an act of charity {Sadaqah}" {al-TIRMIDHI who said it is Hasan gharib}.
The Muslim should always be pure of heart and
should have a cheerful and friendly face. He should meet his brother with warmth
and smiles. There's no excuse--Prophet Muhammad (sws) always had a warm smile
on his face even though he went through hardships, torture, and suffering in
this life.
"... [those] who restrain anger and pardon {all}
men- for Allah loves
those who do good." [Translation of the Qur'an-Al-Imran
3:134]
The true Muslim restrains his anger and is
forgiving. He does not see any shame in doing so, rather he sees it as a good
deed which will bring him closer to Allah (SWT).
He has a good attitude towards others and treats
them well. Anas (RA) said: "I served the Messenger of Allah (SAWS) for ten
years, and he never said to me 'UFF!'. If I did something, he never said, "Why
did you do that?" And if I did not do something, he never
said, "Why did you not do such-and-such? [Agreed
Upon]
The Prophet (pbuh) said: "Among the best of you are
those who have the best attitude (towards others)". [Agreed upon]
He (SAWS) also said: "Nothing will weigh more
heavily in the balance of the believing servant on the Day of Resurrection than
a good attitude (towards others). Verily Allah hates those who utter vile words
and obscene speech." [Al-Tirmidhi, Hasan Sahih hadith]
The true Muslim has a good attitude. He is humble
and soft and gentle in his speech. He does not use bad language or insult
others. He is patient, gentle, forgiving, tolerant, cheerful, and sincere
towards others.
A true Muslim
submits to the truth when revealed to him.

The Status of Salāt al-Tasbīh
Question:
I wanted to know the origin and
significance of the prayer called Salāt al-Tasbīh.
Answer:
Salāt al-Tasbīh, it should be
appreciated, is not a practice initiated by the Holy Prophet (sws) in the Ummah
as a Sunnah. Consequently, we see that it has only been mentioned in some
individual reports. Moreover, most famous and widely acknowledged books of
Hadīth like Bukhārī and Muslim and some others do not contain this report.
Thus we cannot be sure of the reliably of these reports beyond any doubt. The
importance of the prayer (regarding the stress it received) can obviously be
ascertained by the fact that it is only mentioned in some individual reports
(these reports mostly rely on two basic chain of reporters) of relatively less
reliable works of Hadīth.
According to these narratives whoever offers Salāt al-Tasbīh, his previous sins
will be forgiven. The Holy Prophet (sws) is reported to have said to Abbās, his
uncle, to offer it very often. He said that one must offer it once in a lifetime
at least. However, this exhortation does not raise the importance of the prayer
in religious obligations. Had the Holy Prophet (sws) intended to include it in
the Sunnah he would not have confined this information to only some of the
individuals rather he would have disseminated it among the entire generation.
