Dear Proud Christian,

I think you are very intelligent, you
are correct.

Beating or 'hitting' a wife is a
stupid, cowardly, uncivil thing to do
and which has, destroyed many marriages.

The Quran says:

"Either retain them in kindness
or release them in kindness.
Do not retain them in order to hurt
them..." Quran: 2:231

Islam doesn't allow Muslims to
beat wives at all! A Muslim is not
allowed to abuse another Muslim or
anyone for that matter!

Those who say beating is allowed, have
a misconception on only one arabic word
(daraba) taken out of literal context
from another verse. Some Muslims have
also based it on one or two misquoted
narrations of our prophet.

Our prophet, himself never permitted
any woman to be beaten or mistreated
and there are many narrations that promote
tolerance and respect for a
woman... and of course, no wife beating!

Peace,
Thameena

Salams,

Re: This Ayat is for those women

The husband can only 'retain' a
woman 'in kindness' if she is
married to him and she still
is his wife.

The verse is for kind treatment to
wives while married to them,
or to release them in kindness
after divorce. (2:231)

Those men who do not keep to those
limits, Allah swt says they have
'wronged their souls' (2:231).

Allah swt doesn't force anyone to
remain in an agonising marriage.

In the Quran, Allah swt describes
the marital relationship as:

"And of His signs is this:
He created for you mates from
yourself that you might find
rest in them, and He ordained
between you love and mercy.
Lo, therein indeed are portents
for folk who reflect". (30:21)

are you promoting the circmstances for which woman is needed to be beaten.

you said………Islam doesn't allow Muslims tobeat wives at all!

but in other words you want yo say that a woman is frreely allowed to create the circmstances for which she is needed to be beaten.

Bhavittre Said:

Quran Majid:

24:4 And those who accuse honourable women
but bring not four witnesses, scourge them with
eighty stripes and never afterward accept their testimony.
They indeed are evil doers.

So Bhavittre, what shall we do with you?

why are u so much personal Thameena? are u redy to have the similar response?

you are wrong! i have asked a scholar. the case u mentioned needs punishment of flogging 100 times-(surat al nur) not beating.

Tell me who stupid man and a woman will do the indecent act in the presence of four witnesses. Even one witness is difficult to produce.

Note: i accepted islam but the people like u are compelling me to leave the religion because ur way of presentation is very awkward. u treat the new muslims in the same way like u deal wth the old ones. is there any sense in the muslims like yo. u people see only Bhavittre not what he wants to ask or tell.

Thameena u leave the forum, if u are unanswerable or have no sense to reply.

You can follow anyone, the Quran interpretations
on verse 2:231 are all the same!

Bhavittre, you derided me & not the other way around. My original post was to Proud Christian, not to you.

If you think it is 100 stripes, that is up to you, (that's 20 extra!)

I will no longer respond to you as nothing positive is coming from your discussions.

Salams,

My original post was for Proud Christian.
However Rakhtal & Bhavittre are seem to think
they can win the argument by attacking me.

Rakhtal, you can follow anyone, the Quran
interpretations on verse 2:231 are all the same.

Bhavittre, you have answered your own question!

Any form of abuse or violence on the wife
by the husband for any reason is completely
forbidden (See 2:231 & others including
Prophet's last sermon). Even during wartime,
women & children are not to be harmed!

The only reason for which a Muslim woman
can be physically punished is through an
Islamic court, and only if she is proved a zani
witnessed by four adults (24:2). Otherwise her
husband can either keep her, separate or divorce
her if she is indecent fahisha see (65:1).
Or the husband & wife can swear an oath
to the Islamic court (24:6)

If anyone accuses other honourable sisters of
'promoting the circumstances' for women to
become fahisha, promiscuous, adultress or
prostitutes, then the punishment is, as the in
verse 24:4.

There is no where in the Quran where the
word daraba means physically to 'beat'.
Daraba in idribhunna can mean anything from
separation & eviction or providing an example
to the nashazi (4:34), unchaste or fahisha wife!
(see prophet's last sermon)

The obedience of salahat qanatat (4:34) wives
is to Allah swt, in safeguarding her privacy
(or chastity). And husbands are qawwamum-fadhl
over them i.e take every care of their wives concerns.

In summary, there is the following hadith from
the Prophet on the rights of a wife. A person
asked the Messenger of Allah, “What right does
the wife of one among us have over him?”
His answer was, “It is that you shall give
her food, you shall not slap her on the face, nor revile her,
nor leave her alone except within the house”

(Ahmad, Abu Da’ud, Ibn Majah).

This implies provision, residence, respect and security.

I hope this is clear.

I won't be back, because I am busy and
I have other commitments.

I pray Allah guides you all.

Wasalam,

------------------------------------------------------------

This hadith is besides the circumstances of the last resort, which is BEATING nothing else. And in the presence of clear commandments of Quran, such a hadith is of no value if the circumstances are there for which the last resort is ONLY BEATING.

Your interpretation is not correct!

I have written a detailed article about it in my website by the title of Is Wife Beating Allowed in Islam? which can be read at www.goonjmedia.com.
There is no way that husband could beat his wife. This word daraba has been mistranslated and our ignorant Mullahs are beating the bush about it. It simply means that if the woman becomes out of control simply leave her.
Allah Knows The Best.
