Halaal and Haraam Animals
Question asked by Muhammad Atif Rafi.
Posted on: Friday, December 3, 2004 - Hits: 3561
Question:
Please provide me with a complete list of Halaal and Haraam animals. That would be a great help, especially if you can provide with some reference. I was also asked by one of my friends about donkeys: are they Halaal or Haraam? It is herbivorous, and nothing suggests that it is Haraam.
Answer:
I am afraid it would not be possible to list the prohibited food items and the allowable of them. The Shari`ah has adopted quite another approach in this regard. The Almighty has declared that from among the things humans consume as food, only four things are Haraam, which include flesh of swine, poured out blood, meat of dead animals, and the food from the things dedicated to deities other than God.
Some items are only not allowed to be eaten, and they can be used in other ways. For example, we cannot eat a dead animal but we can use the skin of the animal in other ways. Similarly, we can use all such kind of things in any other way.
You have raised the matter of donkeys. For our view on the issue, please refer to :
