Sunnah vs Arab Custom
Question asked by Nasir Shahab.
Posted on: Wednesday, March 15, 2006 - Hits: 4787
Question:
How one can differentiate between Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad and Arab custom that was prevalent in those days?
Answer:
It is necessary for an act to be considered a Sunnah that it is a religious matter in its essence and taught to all and sundry with the clear understanding that it is a part of religion. Since the Prophet (sws) could not revive or keep in vogue a practice which was religious in nature unless he received Divine sanction, therefore, the Sunan stand apart from the cultural matters.
