Punishment of Apostasy
Question asked by Ali Zafar.
Posted on: Wednesday, May 31, 2006 - Hits: 3700
Question:
My question is that if somebody wants to convert from Islam to any other religion does Islam let him or her do that? I was told that this is not allowed and is punishable by death. Does not this mean that there is no freedom of choice in Islam? I am al-hamdullah a Muslim and just want to know about it.
Answer:
There are two views in this regard. You have referred to one view. Another view which think is intellectually more convincing is that there is no punishment for a person who becomes an apostate by leaving Islam.
