we had our local interfaith meeting at burnham abbey this month and joining in the service with the sisters of abbey was great. the verses that we read from psalms and the prayers expressed to God are so touching that you cannot stop your tears.
we must really not ignore the previous revelations whilst reading Qur'an because those were also Word of God, although with many changes over the period of time but still the Word of God can be found in there.
in order to justify whether it is or not the Word, we have Qur'an as 'muhaimin' , the Guardian- hence the knowledge of Qur'an is inevitable whilst reading the previous revelations. |

An informal two days community event for the local communities from all faiths and backgrounds.
An excellent opportunity to come together and chat about the main theme of the event which is
" Do you think Faith is an entity we still need in our lives or do stimulants, recreation, fun and other entertainments provide enough alternative in todays busy and materialistic life style?"
Representatives from various Faiths will be present to talk to you and answer your queries on one to one basis with no formal speeches and lectures on a cup of tea or a meal provided free.
Also stalls by local community services like Councillors, Police, Fire service, National Health Service, local charities like Cancer Research and by College students about the ill effects of drugs on self and environment have been organized along with free meals and entertainment.

This all sounds very organised and interesting. I do hope it all goes well;we do need to present a united front on faith issues. so many people out there are tryng to fight their own corner on=f faith and will not even speak to others let alone show love or understanding.

it is sad to hear as dave mentioned to me that himself and most non muslims still feel threatened by muslims in europe thinking that their aim is to spread Islam... one of the reasons for such threats is possibly the wrong difinition and concept of 'jihad' and 'dawah/preaching' even by muslim scholars themselves-specially over the past century-which has generally given a militant concept about islam and muslims, to muslims and non-muslims both.
however we hope and expect that atleast our faith partners from various religions should not be under such impression and must come fwd openly to share their thoughts and comments as n wen. this is the whole purpose of faith partnerships i suppose.
we have recvd some feedbacks verbally from the visitors. most thought we must organize more of such. rev. allen walker from kingsway church and imam abduljabbar of a local masjid thought this is what has been awaited to bring the people together. some thought it could be better and more wel-organized in future specially funding -wise... our muslim scholar of the event, abdullah rahim mentioned that he thought it was worth coming to attend this and he would love to come for more of such. we hv also recvd some emails including the following from our mod. colleague michaele, who was representing brahma kumaris.(she has apologised not being able to use forums for some reason)besides there has been a mix of views from other friends and colleagues who attended.

Thank you every1 for their input for the event.
picture 1 above: some team members including the moderators studying islam- imran yousuf, michael melon and peter(rep b.kumaris), david sparrow, rev. john newton from methodist church, iftikhar, ashraq 'n faisal (volunteers SIV)and dr henna khan, with families and br abdullah rahim.and ofcourse our most important-young minds!  there were stands from jewish and buddhist religions. unfortunately our sikh and hindu colleagues could not make ot for some reason.
The NHS(National Health Service), fire services, anti smoking an ddrugs as well as 'saving environment' ,'breast feeding campaigne' , jewellery and beauty plus henna painting and Art of Islam stands gave a 'helping hands' and 'serving humanity' flavour to our event-giving out the very strong message that Islam and all Faiths are not and must not be taken as merely a source of self care only-rather to spread the light around. Just like the Sun and a burning lamp, which whilst burning spread their light at the same time; because some of our Faith friends thought(specifically Buddhists and Brahma Kumaris concept) perhaps we should wait and enpower our own souls first and then go out in the communitites to help.
We don't think their has to be a limitation e.g. in Islam and other Abrahimic religions you start practicing your worship rituals from a very young age and are supposed to continue and develop them untill you live, and at the same time continue to be a beneficial soul for all around. |

Muslim & Jewish Women's Forum.
we had the 2nd meeting of this in w.london recently. it's amazing that how much we resemble with eachother just being women. all the muslim and jewish ladies condemn the wearing of immodest dresses as seen on streets specially as summer starts. the rabai ladies of quite of the view that a woman's beauty lies in her modesty and dress is the 1st site of that.
we presented the verses from surah noor in this regard and the meeting concluded v well with a light dinner.
we feel such interactions are v imp. to understand eachothers' culture & religion in order to try and live together in decency & harmony. |

Is Boycotting the answer(Denmark)?
By this boycott you are hurting those farmers, labors, millions of hard working people and their families (of Denmark or any other country) who have nothing to do with these cartoons or their creators. They are just as helpless in these things as muslims are in controlling their rulers. Also it is not necessary they would agree with these cartoon creators but they will definitley feel bad that muslims are punishing them for someelse's crime. Responding to evil with evil is not wise and true muslim way. Did the nabi (SA) stop making business transactions with Jews and Kuffar of Makkah when they disagreed with him or teased him? He did not. He was inclusive not exclusive. What muslims need to do is to use this opportunity to educate people about Islam and be good role models. Boycotting, yelling and crying will not help guys. Have love for all, and malice for none. Read Namaz regularly and read durood sharif frequentlyt and keep your life on the straigth path. Good Luck

We, the Shias in Britain are a growing and determined community set in our principle to stand up for truth and justice at all expense. With the growing demands of the modern world, this community is in need of materialising its aspirations and transforming them into a fully fledged reality that would steer us to a more prosperous future.
Since 2006, an Interim Working Committee has been engaging in dialogue with Shia Muslim organisations and individuals with regards to the formation of a Shia Muslim Council that would represent all fabrics of our community in the United Kingdom.
For almost two years, the Interim Working Committee has been working side by side with Shia Muslim scholars, professionals and active community members. Ample progress has been made in many avenues that will, with the assistance of Allah [swt], provide us with a strong foundation towards reaching our goal.
It is vital now more than ever before, for the Shia Muslim community to stand shoulder to shoulder in unity and engage in an honest and thought-driven dialogue in order for us to improve the prosperity of our community for this generation and the generations to come. The challenges to the community are many but together we can make a difference, and demonstrate our strong legacy in overcoming discord and striving for a better tomorrow.

If any one of us feel that they are doing anything wrong in spreading their beliefs and the word of a god we share, then I believe that we are the worst hippo crates ( which we are)
We through teaching of our religion are asked to spread our precious religion and we all know that majority of this e-mail receivers are happy to be involved or are involved in spreading the word of our religion in a predominant christian tolerant land. So why we are not happy to give equal opertunity to the other party in the playing field. If any one converts religion, who are we to judge, we have our God to decide our fate

I have based my reply in two parts,
Part A
is to answer with some quotations to the Muslim brother who felt the compulsion to respond to my e-mail and demanded that one should “Speak no evil” unless it is backed in the light of Quran and sunnah
Here are my views again:
The Christian World is allowing Muslim priests to freely propagate Islam in their countries. It is thus only natural and logical that Muslim countries, as quid-pro-quo, should allow similar facility to the Christian missionaries in their countries.
Muslims who are against this reciprocal arrangement base their plea on a flawed argument. They say that since Allah has declared Islam as the best religion (Qur
’an -3:110) and that Muslims who change their religion would go to Hell Qur’an- 3:85), we cannot allow Muslims to change their religion. The problem with such argument is that while in the case of Muslim, the Qur’anic verdicts are binding’ it is not so with the non-Muslims. We cannot expect members of other faith to treat them as the final truth. Hence in any inter-faith discussion, only secular pleas would be acceptable by all parties.
We should remember that while Muslims think that theirs is the best community, as endorsed by Allah, members of other religions have similar views about their faith and community. For example, the Jews believe that they are the chosen people of God? Jehovah reportedly told them, “The lord God has chosen you to be people for His Own possession out of all people that are on earth.” Christians also believe in the sacredness of their religion in the light the following sayings of the Jesus
’
“I am the Way, the Truth and Life. He that is not with me is against me.” (Mathew 12:30)
“No one comes to Father except through me.” (John 14:6)
It was in the light of this background that Allah sent the following verse.
‘
And they say: “None shall enter paradise unless he is Jew or Christians.” These are vain desires. Say: Produce your proof if you are truthful.” Whoever submits his whole self to Allah and is a good doer- he will get his award with the Lord: On such shall be no fear, nor shall they grief.” (Qur’an 2:111 and 2:112)With regard to Allah’s desire to tolerate other religions also see verses 109:1-6,2:62 and5:72,and also 3:113and 3:114
(Incidentally, it may be noted that numerous modern Muslim scholars thinks that apostates that do not create any mischief should be left alone and not be executed. Allah would punish them as indicated in Qur
’an, verses: 3:88 and several others.)
Regarding the mode of conversion, although Allah says that there is no compulsion in religion but we have to keep in mind the following verses:
“For those who believe not in Allah, nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Apostle, nor acknowledge the Religion of Truth, (even if they are) of the People of the Book,
fight until they pay Jizyah with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.” (Qur’an 9:29)
“But when the forbidden months are past, slay the Pagans wherever you find them and seize them, beleaguer them and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war); but if they repent, and establish regular prayers and practice regular charity, then the way for them For Allah is Oft Forgiving, Most Merciful.” (Qur’
an 9:5)
It may however be noted that modern scholars are of the view that these verses were valid only during the time of the Prophet and that too for certain areas. We cannot read Qur’an selectively and come to a definite conclusion. We must consider all the verses on a given subject and seek fresh interpretations of their import that are in line with the requirements of the contemporary world.
Finally, it may be stated that if a Muslim changes his religion under coercion or for worldly gains, he is not a good Muslim anyway. Let him face the condemnation of Allah who has ignored such people. See the following verse;
“O Believers! If any of you become apostate, then (it makes no difference to Allah) Allah will create many such others, the beloved of Allah, who will love Him who will be soft and kind to Momins and heavy handed towards the Kafirs, who will strive in the way of God and who will not be deterred by derision.” (5:54)
